Network terminology

Download: How quickly data travels from the test service to your device.
Upload: How quickly data travels from your device to the test service.
Latency: The round-trip response time. Lower values usually feel more responsive.
Jitter: How much latency varies between measurements. Lower variation is generally better.
Packet loss: Requests that did not return successfully during the measurement.
Bufferbloat: Extra latency that appears while the connection is busy downloading or uploading.
IPv4 / IPv6 readiness: Whether the browser can demonstrate routes using the two public Internet Protocol versions.
ASN: The Autonomous System Number registered to the network announcing the public IP address.
CIDR: A compact way to describe an IP network and its prefix length, such as 192.168.1.0/24.
Estimated line tier: A broad estimate based on the best measured download result. Only the provider can confirm the purchased package.

More consistent measurements

Before running a test

Pause large downloads, cloud backups and streaming where practical.
Keep this browser tab visible until the test has finished.
Use Ethernet when testing the fixed-line connection itself.
Repeat important tests and compare results from the same device.
Disable VPNs or privacy relays only when it is appropriate and safe to do so.

Network tests still require an active Internet connection. The installed version keeps only a small navigation shell available when the connection drops.

Accuracy

Results are estimates

Browser performance, device capability, Wi-Fi or mobile signal, congestion, routing, security software, VPNs and server load can change a result. Measurements can be incomplete, delayed, misleading or wrong. Treat them as preliminary diagnostic indicators only—not certified proof of an Internet service package, fault, security condition or correct configuration. Verify important findings independently before taking action.

Adjust text size, contrast and motion from the Accessibility control in the header. Authorised maintainers can also run the focused automated audit, but its results do not prove WCAG conformance and must be followed by manual testing.

Privacy

How information is handled

Saved speed history remains in browser storage on the current device.
Saved DNS, port and SSL targets remain in browser storage and can be removed or cleared.
The Home page keeps only the latest Full Diagnostics summary in browser storage for recent activity.
The guided tool recommendation is calculated on the page and is not saved.
Geographic location is requested only after you select the location action.
Public IP and provider details can reflect a VPN, proxy or privacy relay.
DNS, port and MAC queries are sent to the hosted service to produce a result.
The SSL checker originates from the hosted service and may request a cached assessment from an external certificate-analysis service.
The protocol-readiness page sends direct address requests to a public IP lookup service.
Request throttling uses a one-way connection signature held temporarily in active server memory; it is not added to shared reports.
Temporary shared reports exclude public IP addresses and geographic-location information.
Combined support reports are generated locally and exclude public IP, location, saved targets, passwords and deletion tokens.
Connection comparisons read speed-test history already stored in this browser.
Reliability-monitor samples and the latest network-health summary are stored locally until cleared.
The Saved Data and Privacy page displays storage categories and sizes without printing their stored values.
Safe preference recovery stores only allowlisted selections such as record type, test count and firewall vendor—not submitted domains, addresses, configurations or secrets.
An anonymous problem report is sent only when selected and contains a random reference, fixed tool category, broad failure type and release. It expires after 30 days.
RDAP lookups send the entered public domain or IP address to the hosted service and the relevant public registry.
Support ZIP bundles are generated locally and contain only the sections selected by the user.
The hosting platform may record operational logs, page views and visitor counts.

Technical access

Protected tools

Ping, Port Test, DNS Lookup, SSL Certificate Checker, RDAP Lookup and Network Analyzer require the technical password. The Administration section contains Technical Administration, which uses a separate maintenance password. Passwords are validated by the hosted service and are intended to limit tool access, not protect confidential information.
